The Caravan…
This old caravan belonged to my Granda.
Built as a bespoke caravan sometime in the early 1950s for a wealthy businessman, it travelled all over Europe with my Granda at the wheel while he worked as the owner's chauffeur and gardener.
The story of how it eventually found its way back to him is a fascinating one (and deserves a post of its own once I've gathered all the facts), but after changing hands several times, Granda stumbled across it again in the 1980s and bought it back.
It was a constant presence throughout my childhood, so when the opportunity came to take it on myself, I couldn't resist.
The challenge now is to restore it to its former glory.
I'll be documenting every step of the journey here, the successes, the mistakes, and everything in between, so feel free to unfollow now if you're not prepared for a steady stream of caravan restoration updates over the coming months!
The long-term vision (please forgive the AI-generated images!) is to transform it into an upgraded version of our little honesty box, selling fresh eggs from our hens and, occasionally, some homemade sourdough bread.
It's a big project, but having something like this to work on really energises me and helps me keep balance across all my other commitments. Has anyone restored a vintage caravan before? I’d love to hear any tips or warnings before I get started!
